High Heels and Sexy Shoes
Shoes. Everyone needs shoes. Women love shoes. In fact, most women have many pairs of shoes. Shoes of every style, color, and purpose, grace the bottom of many closets. Oftentimes, when women buy a new outfit, new shoes are selected to accessorize. Some women are actually obsessive regarding footwear and literally own hundreds of pairs. Chances are, whether ladies own 10 pairs or 200, high heels and sexy shoes the most important feature of every collection; and although the more feminine and allure styles seems a likely creation for modern women, almost 500 years of history tells the stories of prominence, profession, punishment, and passion.
When the shoes first became a fashion craze, high heels are a symbol of prominence and aristocracy. As with all fashions, a fad usually begins with one person. High heels are no exception. In 1533, when Catherine d’Medici marries the Duke of New Orleans, she has shoes specifically designed to increase her stature. Naturally, high heels quickly become a royal rage-literally. Everybody, who is anybody, wants a pair of heeled shoes-men included. Unfortunately, the poor are easily recognizable, because only the rich can afford to have shoes specially made and shipped from France.
Later, in 1660, Louis XIV has special ornate five-inch heels designed for his personal use. Once again, one prominent person introduces a future fashion phenomenon. “Louis” heels are soon popular with wealthy women. The fantastic footwear is a showpiece of prominence. Practicality is not a consideration, but the individually handcrafted artistry is a must have for the Rich.
Although associated mainly with the rich and famous, high heels and sexy shoes are also a necessary accessory to some professions. For example, in the 1500’s, heels are introduced to help horse riders keep feet in the stirrups. Equestrians know, without shoes to firmly grip the stirrups, a rider is more likely to loose his/her footing and subsequent be thrown from the horse. Today’s cowboys still wear heeled boots as an important accessory to the profession. Likewise, sexy shoes are important accessories for many occupations. With the increasing popularity of nightclubs in the 1970’s, platform and high-heeled shoes are required for the lady pole dancers, strip tease artists, and cocktail waitresses. Platform shoes boost female height even further than regular heeled shoes and increase the appearance of leg length. Perhaps because platform shoes are not generally worn as part of mainstream fashion, they draw even more of a man’s attention to those erogenous feet. It is uncertain when and where platform shoes originated, but during the last millennium the 1300s are regarded as the source of platform shoes we know today. During the 14th century the wealthier classes took to wearing platforms to prevent their shoes from becoming soiled on the filthy European streets, certainly not a very glamorous origin for such sexy footwear, but the 1300s are not necessarily the true source of modern platform shoes.
Platform and high-heel shoes definitely have a sensual connotation. Men are attracted to shapely legs, delicate ankles, and femininity of sexy shoes. Coupled with scantily clad beauties, high heels and sexy shoes attract male customers, and a nightclub instantly becomes a booming business.
Understandably, sexy shoes can entice a male patron to a flashy nightclub, but how can high heels and sexy shoes be instruments of punishment? Easy. In the 1300’s, platform shoes are introduced as a practical solution to the punishing streets of Europe. To avoid the carnage, the shoes allowed the wearer to simply walk above the filth. In the 1500’s Venetian women endure punishment in the name of fashion. Chopines are popular, yet total impractical and even dangerous. With heels as high as 2 feet, woman need servants to help them safely disembark from a gondola-a major source of travel. Equally ridiculous are the canes necessary to walk in Chopine heels. Without the walking aids, women are in danger of toppling from the perch of their fashionable shoes. Fortunately, the scary and silly shoes died the death of common sense. However, Chopines are not the only dangerous high heels and sexy shoes. Stilettos are possibly dangerous and an improvised weapon. The stiletto, created in the 1950s, is still the perfect choice for many exotic dancers. Stilettos have a pencil width heel, usually four to five inches in height. ‘Stiletto’ is actually a Latin word which means ’small dagger’ and therefore these high heel shoes are often associated with danger and fear. Stilettos are the ultimately sexy heeled shoes.
All teasing aside, the main reason women chose to wear high heels and sexy shoes is the passion. At one time, good girls did not possess any shoe capable of tempting a man. Today, women fully understand the alluring effect of longer, shapelier legs. Thus, the proper shoes will give the allusion of height for petite women. Understandably, men are attracted to well-dressed ladies. High heels and sexy shoes are part of the page. Nevertheless, even if a male is nowhere to be found, women simply like to feel beautiful in high heels and sexy shoes. Feminine and dressy, the shoes make/or break classy attire.
So, when surfing for the perfect pair of high heels or sexy shoes, consider the history and background of the must have footwear for every woman. Once exclusive for the wealthy, often bizarre, always desired, high heels and sexy shoes are here to stay. Whether the shoes are a status symbol, an accessory for work, an obscure weapon, or a precursor to passion, high heels and sexy shoes belong in every lady’s closet.
